Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulaasio Mukasa has explained why he continues to attend public events and concerts, sometimes taking on emcee duties, despite his elevated status as a Member of Parliament.
The lawmaker says being an emcee and serving as an MP are not so different, arguing that both roles revolve around serving the people and staying connected to them.
According to Zambaali, the biggest advantage of being a legislator is the opportunity to take people’s concerns to the floor of Parliament and participate in debates on national issues.
When you’re the area MP, that means you’re a people’s servant, just like being an emcee at an event.
The only advantage I have is that I can take my voice to the floor of Parliament and argue on some national issues. But when you hide away from people, you can’t get to know the issues affecting them.
Zambaali further stressed that remaining on the ground and interacting with ordinary Ugandans helps him understand their struggles, giving him a better opportunity to represent their interests in Parliament.
You have to remain on the ground and among people to better understand the challenges affecting them and take them to the floor of Parliament.
People love someone who resembles them, mirrors their lives and understands their challenges. They also see me struggling just like they do because Uganda is not that good, and there are many issues that make us all cry.

The Nansana legislator also noted that becoming an MP should not make him abandon the personality and accessibility that endeared him to voters before his election.
When you finally become a Honourable Member of Parliament, you don’t go to Mars. You stay in Uganda. On the Honourable thing, my voters want me to remain the Zambaali they voted for.
Once I change from that, they will dislike me and become annoyed. They want the old version of Zambali, who is accessible and free to hold conversations with them at any time.
