With the last five years seemingly passing in the blink of an eye, some may have already forgotten one of the most talked-about incidents involving Ugandan entertainers during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Sometime in 2020, Galaxy FM presenter DJ Nimrod Nabeeta, popularly known as DJ Nimrod, and singer Maddox Sematimba were arrested for allegedly violating COVID-19 restrictions and remanded to Kitalya Prison.
The two were among several people who were arrested at 911 Lounge along Salaama Road after they were reportedly found partying beyond the curfew hours, in breach of the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that were in force at the time.
Following their arrest, Nimrod, Maddox and others were arraigned before court and subsequently remanded to Kitalya Prison, an incident that attracted considerable attention in the entertainment industry.
Narrating his ordeal in prison, DJ Nimrod disclosed that they were made to frog jump while naked.
There is a part where you strip naked. You strip naked and do frog jumps, the distance of half a football pitch and back. The advantage of being a celebrity is that I was left in a boxer after being searched.

Their stay behind bars did not last long. After spending a week in prison, they were released and ordered to perform community service for two weeks as part of their punishment.
The incident also had an impact on their fellow Galaxy FM presenter, Detacha Sakalaman, who reportedly lost his signature dreadlocks after they were chopped off while he was in custody.
Years later, the incident remains a reminder of how the COVID-19 restrictions disrupted the lifestyles of many Ugandans, including some of the country’s well-known entertainers.
