Veteran musician Titan Takuba opened up about his prolonged absence from Uganda’s music scene, revealing that he is willing to let fellow artists remake his classic songs, with Juliana Kanyomozi, Sheebah Karungi, Grace Nakimera and Ava Peace among those he would love to work with.

Takuba, who is remembered for timeless songs such as Nzikiliza, Nkwata Mpola and Okwagala Simusango, has been away from the limelight for years, leaving many fans wondering about his whereabouts and whether he would ever return to active music.

Explaining his absence, the veteran singer disclosed that he had left the country to concentrate on other professional responsibilities overseas.

Despite spending years away from the industry, Takuba says he remains open to new musical opportunities, particularly collaborations that would introduce his catalogue to a younger generation of music lovers.

When asked whether he would allow contemporary musicians to remake his old songs, the composer said he had no problem with the idea, adding that there were several artistes he would personally love to see reinterpret his classics.

“I’ve no problem with allowing and giving any artist a chance to re-do my songs. Right now, there are individuals I would love to sit down with and re-do my music that most Ugandans loved so much. Some belong to my generation, like Juliana Kanyomozi, to re-do one of my classics.”

Beyond Juliana, Takuba named fellow singer Grace Nakimera as another artiste he would love to see breathe new life into his music.

He praised Nakimera’s musical style and approach, expressing optimism that they could work together when the right opportunity presents itself.

The composer also singled out Ava Peace as a younger artiste whose style has caught his attention, suggesting that a collaboration could be possible in the future.

“I would also love Grace Nakimera to re-do a song of mine. In the latter generation, there’s a lady I’ve been keenly looking at, and I appreciate her style and her approach. I believe when the time is right, I would love to do with her the same thing, and that’s Ava Peace.”

Takuba also expressed interest in seeing Sheebah Karungi take on one of his classics, predicting that her distinctive musical style could make the outcome particularly exciting.

“And my sister Sheebah, in her colour, I think it might be explosive having my classics re-done by her.”

Although he is no longer operating as a commercial artiste in the conventional sense, Takuba revealed that he has an extensive musical catalogue from his earlier years that he is still considering how best to present to the public.

According to the composer, his collection contains approximately 380 songs, with plans for a possible album release when he feels the time is right.

“I have a discography of my old era comprising 380 songs, and I’m contemplating what to do, though I’m not a commercial artist as of now. I just do work that I feel is good to me and that many out there might fall in love with, and at the right time, I will drop that album,” he explained.

For now, fans can access some of his more recent work through his digital platform, TitanTakuba.App.

Takuba disclosed that an 11-track EP drawn from his Bintadde album has already been uploaded to the application for listeners who want to explore his music.
