November 25, 2023
The People’s Republic of China has reiterated its steadfast support for Uganda’s initiatives in implementing comprehensive reforms within the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). China commended Uganda for its commitment to preserving African solidarity, condemned external interference, and rejected the politics of bullying.
H.E. Mr. Luosang Jiangcun, the Deputy Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee, expressed gratitude for Uganda’s pivotal role as a member of the C-10 and emphasized the strengthening of bilateral relations. “China-Uganda relations are at their peak, appreciating Uganda’s pivotal role in preserving Africa’s solidarity as a C-10 member,” affirmed Mr. Jiangcun. He extended China’s support to Uganda in resisting external interference and bullying, emphasizing collaboration in various areas, including human rights, counter-terrorism, poverty reduction, and climate change.
Mr. Jiangcun advocated for deepening strategic cooperation, encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Uganda, and enhancing manufacturing capabilities. He affirmed China’s commitment to optimizing trade structures and welcomed Uganda to leverage platforms like the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo.
In the context of UN Security Council reforms, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa sought China’s backing, emphasizing Uganda’s pursuit of equal representation. He expressed gratitude for China’s historical support and called for the creation of two permanent African seats at the Security Council.
Tayebwa highlighted the unrepresentative nature of the Security Council, citing the Libyan conflict as an example. The proposed reforms encompass membership categories, the veto held by permanent members, regional representation, Council size, and its working methods.
China pledged medical support to Uganda, promising to dispatch medical teams. Tayebwa acknowledged the robust bilateral relations, lauding President Xi Jinping’s friendship and China’s contributions, including providing vehicles for the South Summit.
Expressing appreciation for China’s role in the pandemic, Tayebwa described it as a significant challenge. China’s donation of testing kits and vaccines assisted Uganda’s preventive strategy. He underscored the need for technology transfer and increased access to Chinese markets for Ugandan goods to improve the trade balance.

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero, presided over the 28th graduation ceremony at Kampala International University (KIU) main campus in Kampala. Approximately 1862 graduates received their degrees, with 17 achieving first-class honors. The graduates comprised 88% undergraduates and 12% post-graduates, with a gender distribution of 54% male and 46% female.
During the ceremony, Hon. Musenero emphasized the crucial role of science, technology, and innovation in national development. She noted that the nation’s underdevelopment could be attributed to the underutilization of these key elements. “To develop, we all need science and technology regardless of race or nationality,” she added.
Acknowledging the graduates’ hard work and resilience amid the challenges posed by the temporary closure of the university during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chairman of the Board Of Trustees, Dr. Al Haji Hassan Basajjabalaba, announced that all 17 first-class students would receive free enrollment for their Master’s program.
KIU’s Vice Chancellor, Mouhammad Mpezamihigo, expressed appreciation for the efforts of graduates and staff that have positioned the university as the second-best in the nation. To further elevate this status, he called on the government to ensure equal opportunities for both government and private institutions.
“We appeal to the government of Uganda to reinstate the students’ loan scheme,” Prof. Mpezamihigo said. “Moreover, we request that government scholarships, currently centralized to government universities, be extended to both private and government institutions.”

President Museveni’s Trade Hub In Serbia Allegedly A Disguised Bar – The Hoima Post – News
1 week ago
November 16, 2023
Uganda’s ‘Coffee Investment Consortium Initiative’ launched a purported trade hub in Belgrade, Serbia, called ‘Uganda Connect,’ by President Museveni is now alleged to be a bar, according to recent revelations. Despite its initial promotion as a platform to facilitate Uganda’s exports, visitors to ‘Uganda Connect’ reportedly found it to be a bar where patrons enjoy foreign beers and cocktails.
The hub, which received over Shs 5 billion for furnishing, stocking, and promotion, has sparked concerns about the potential misuse of funds. President Museveni inaugurated the hub in July 2023, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations between Uganda and Serbia and boost Uganda’s presence in the Balkans region.
However, recent reports suggest that the Serbian government may have perceived the ‘Uganda Connect’ project as a sham. President Museveni expressed gratitude for the opportunity to promote Ugandan exports in Serbia, particularly emphasizing the potential for processed goods like coffee.
Despite earlier optimism, the hub is now in limbo, with claims that it has not fulfilled its intended purpose. The Coffee Investment Consortium Initiative, led by Nelson Tugume, received $1 million from the Finance Ministry to support its members’ participation in showcasing their products at the trade hub.
However, reports indicate internal strife within the consortium, with members accusing Tugume of lack of accountability and the initiative losing direction. Uganda Coffee Development Authority’s reports show no coffee exports to Serbia since the opening of the ‘Uganda Connect’ hub in July. The situation has raised questions about the legitimacy and effectiveness of the project, with critics branding it as fraudulent.
