Singer and songwriter Sama Sojah has opened up about some of the challenges he believes are holding Ugandan musicians back from breaking barriers and making a bigger impact on the international music scene.
According to Sama Sojah, many Ugandan artists are largely affected by what he describes as ”hunger and anger”, particularly the struggle to survive financially.
He explained that when an artist lacks money, life can become extremely difficult, and the frustration that comes with poverty can eventually fuel anger and desperation.
Sama Sojah noted that hunger comes in different forms, with financial struggles being one of the biggest challenges facing artists and influencing their decisions.
The challenge or issue affecting most Ugandan artists is hunger and anger. Hunger is of different kinds. There’s hunger of not having money. Because when you don’t have money, life tends to be very difficult and hard. Hunger, in fact, brings anger. Poverty also brings anger. When one is broke, they can do unthinkable things. So, personally, I’m much affected by hunger and anger.
