KCCA Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Olive Namazzi. K has clarified that members of the public are free to spend their leisure time and hold gatherings at Sheraton Gardens, saying the facility is a public space under the management of KCCA.
Namazzi, who also serves as the LC5 Woman Lord Councillor for Nakawa West Division and is a former Kyambogo University Guild President, made the remarks while addressing concerns surrounding public access to the gardens.
She noted that although the gardens are fenced and located within the vicinity of Sheraton Hotel, the public should not assume that the space is exclusively reserved for hotel guests or private functions.
According to Namazzi, residents are free to visit the gardens, relax, spend time with their families and enjoy the space, including during weekends.
Sheraton Gardens seem like they are owned by Sheraton Hotel because people host their weddings and other functions there. However, those are public gardens and anybody is allowed to visit them anytime they want, chill and relax from there.
The Sheraton Gardens belong to KCCA, and anyone is free to relax there, even on weekends with their family members.
Her remarks have drawn attention to a space that many members of the public may have previously assumed was restricted or exclusively connected to the hotel.
If Namazzi’s position is followed in practice, members of the public could make greater use of the gardens as a recreational space, whether for relaxing, spending time with family or simply escaping the hustle and bustle of the city.

However, her comments have also raised questions about security and access procedures, particularly because the gardens are located near State House.
Some members of the public are now wondering whether people who choose to relax at the gardens would face restrictions or intervention from security agencies given the sensitive nature of the surrounding area.
That is one of the issues that remains to be clarified following Namazzi’s remarks.
@namazzi71Please make use of the Sheraton Gardens for leisure and recreation, these spaces are intended to serve as public leisure parks under KCCA, rather than being treated as an extension of the Sheraton Hotel.
