Musician and songwriter Pawaboy AB has opened up about his song writing career, revealing that he was the one behind Kataleya and Kandle’s hit song Ngenderera, which he initially wrote for Winnie Nwagi.

Speaking during an interview on Galaxy FM, Pawaboy explained that he usually stays involved in the studio when artists are recording songs he has written for them. This, he said, allows him to guide them on how to deliver particular lyrics and parts of the song so that the final product comes out as he envisioned it.

“Of course as a writer, I have to be around to give you directions on how to do things,” he said.

He was asked whether he would ever feel disappointed if a song he wrote for an artist did not turn out as well as he expected, and whether he would consider taking the song away and giving it to another artist.

However, the singer explained that such a situation is unlikely because of his hands-on approach during recording, noting that he is always available to direct the artist through the song.

He also revealed that he wrote Ngenderera, which was eventually recorded and released by Kataleya and Kandle, although the song was originally intended for Winnie Nwagi.

They told me to write a song for Winnie Nwagi. I don’t know how it ended up being sung by Kataleya and Kandle.

Despite the song becoming popular while he was still building his own career as an artist, Pawa Boy said he did not feel bad about its success coming before his own breakthrough.

Instead, he appeared to take the song’s success as part of his journey as both a songwriter and recording artist.
