Nsangi Secondary School has apologised to media practitioners following a viral video in which some of its students called on experienced journalists to retire and make way for younger talent.
The video, which has since been deleted, sparked outrage among several media practitioners, who criticised the school for allowing students to engage in what they considered disrespectful attacks on some of Uganda’s prominent media personalities.
Following the backlash, the school administration issued an apology, distancing the institution from the students’ remarks and pledging to take disciplinary action against those responsible.
In its apology, the school explained that its mission was to nurture talent and give students opportunities to explore their abilities through various projects and challenges.
However, it acknowledged that the students had crossed the line during one of their media engagements.

The apology read in part:
“RE: NEGLIGENT MISREPRESENTATION
Reference is made to the above-captioned subject. I hereby bring to your attention that our niche as an institution is to nurture talent and maximally explore students’ abilities and potential.
It is against this background that our students are given the opportunity to engage in different projects and challenges.
However, it is very unfortunate that during one of the media engagements, the students went overboard and insulted some of the key media personalities in Uganda, as reflected in the video making rounds on social media.
We are truly sorry about this unfortunate development and pledge that the same will not happen again. Stern disciplinary action will be taken against the perpetrators.
We kindly request forgiveness from the key media practitioners in the spotlight.”
