Controversial public figure Nobert Twizire, popularly known as Nobat Events, is finally a free man after spending approximately one and a half months behind bars.

Following his release, Nobat has opened up about his ordeal, claiming that his arrest was politically motivated and linked to his appointment as the National Coordinator of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

According to Nobat, his elevation to the position did not sit well with certain individuals, whom he accuses of plotting to tarnish his reputation and use his name to divert attention from other issues.

Speaking about the SACCO funds controversy that landed him on remand, Nobat maintained that his organisation had received only Shs1 billion out of the Shs10 billion reportedly given by President Yoweri Museveni.

He explained that the remaining Shs9 billion was shared between two other SACCOs, each of which received Shs4.5 billion.

He alleged that individuals unhappy with the distribution orchestrated his arrest despite the fact that his SACCO members had received their respective shares.

The issues involve a concept of politics because of the position I got in PLU as the National Coordinator, which hurt many.

However, the main reason is that they wanted to ride on my name and stage a diversion.

The President gave us Shs10 billion, and my SACCO got Shs1 billion while the other two SACCOs each got Shs4.5 billion. So they had to play all the science to get me arrested, yet I had distributed the money because my members got their share.

Nobat was initially expected to return to court on November 16 for the hearing of his case.

However, when asked why he had been released before the scheduled date, he declined to offer an explanation, saying that was a question best directed to the judges.

He also used the opportunity to address Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, insisting that he does not blame her for his arrest because she was simply carrying out her duties.

However, he argued that she should have first listened to his side of the story before taking steps that eventually saw him sent behind bars.

Nobat further revealed that he intends to write to the Prime Minister and request a meeting where he can personally present his account of the controversial SACCO saga.

I want to send this message to the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja. I don’t blame her because she just played her role, but before ordering my arrest, she would have first listened to my side of the story, but she didn’t.

For now, Nobat says he is still recovering from the ordeal and working towards getting his life back on track.

He is expected to gradually resume public appearances once he has fully regained his footing.
