If Friday night at Somewhere Else in Lugogo proved anything, it is that music hits differently when everyone gets a chance to make it their own.
The third edition of Pass the Aux, powered by Guinness Smooth, brought together music lovers, creatives and Kampala’s nightlife crowd for an immersive experience where the music kept moving, creativity took centre stage and the crowd was as much a part of the experience as the DJs behind the decks.
The concept was simple: bring together great music, cold Guinness Smooth and an atmosphere that gives people the freedom to express themselves. The result was a night that went well beyond the dancefloor.
A stacked line-up of emerging DJs kept the energy building throughout the evening, with Jarla Vibes setting the pace with an opening set that moved between R&B, Afrobeats and reggae. Big E alongside Caleb, Melvyn alongside Lukas and Bertha, and the closing duo of Trizzy and Saint Trevor each brought their own sound to the decks, giving the crowd a series of distinct musical experiences that kept the night alive until the final set.
But the decks were only part of the story.
Across the venue, guests found different ways to get involved, from body art and interactive art to board games, UNO and pool. Fashion became another form of self-expression, while the opportunity for guests to take turns on the decks brought the spirit of Pass the Aux to life. Here, music was not simply something to listen to; it was something to participate in, share and reinterpret.
That spirit of creative freedom sits at the heart of Guinness Smooth’s ongoing Make It Yours campaign, which champions a generation of creatives who are putting their own spin on their craft, challenging conventions and carving out individual identities.
Speaking about the experience, Denise Paula Nazzinda, Guinness Uganda Brand Manager, said the brand’s support for Pass the Aux reflects its commitment to creating platforms where emerging talent and creative communities can express themselves on their own terms.
“Make It Yours is about celebrating people who are confident enough to put their own spin on what they do. With Pass the Aux, we are creating a space where music, art, fashion and individual expression come together, giving creatives the freedom to experiment, collaborate and share their talents with a wider audience,” she said.
Now in its third edition, Pass the Aux continues to build a space where music and creativity meet, bringing together different sounds, styles and personalities under one roof. With every set, creative collaboration and guest who stepped up to the decks, Friday night delivered a reminder that the best experiences are often the ones people get to shape for themselves.
And with Guinness Smooth in hand, the aux firmly in rotation and creativity flowing from the decks to the dancefloor, Somewhere Else was exactly where Kampala needed to be on Friday night.
