The drama surrounding the Makerere University Guild President’s office continues to unfold following the chaotic scenes involving H.E. Gracious Kadondi and singer Fik Fameica at the Freshers’ Ball held at Impis Rugby Grounds, where the guild president was reportedly denied an opportunity to address the students.

Following the incident, Gracious Kadondi suspended Edward Mutebi for 20 days to pave the way for investigations into his conduct and whether he had met the expected standards of a guild minister.

However, upon receiving the suspension letter, Mutebi acknowledged receipt, thanked Kadondi for the opportunity to serve in her administration and seemingly threw in the towel with a rather cheerful response, announcing his resignation.

“Dear Madam President, Thank you (and yours) for the opportunity to serve. I resign with a bright smile.”

Before his resignation, reports had emerged that one of the members of Kadondi’s cabinet had allegedly gone out of their way to instruct the event’s emcees not to give her an opportunity to address the students during the Freshers’ Ball.

To make matters worse, the guild president was reportedly denied the chance to invite the night’s main performer, Fik Fameica, onto the stage, a responsibility that has traditionally been accorded to guild presidents at previous editions of the event.

With Mutebi now out of the picture, attention shifts to who the cabinet will appoint to fill his position and whether further disciplinary action will be taken against him over the alleged conduct that triggered the controversy.
