Veteran playwright, actor and producer Kojja Kagato has weighed in on why some content creators resort to producing vulgar and inappropriate content, blaming it on a lack of creativity, originality and meaningful ideas.
According to Kagato, many creators lack the intellectual capacity and creativity needed to develop quality content, leaving them with little choice but to turn to vulgar material to attract audiences.
He further argued that some of these creators lack basic knowledge despite having recently completed their formal education, something he believes reflects their inability to produce intellectually stimulating content.
“The problem they face is that they don’t have content, and they are not naturally brilliant. When you ask them what led to Uganda gaining her independence, they won’t be able to explain, yet they are fresh from school. That implies they are not clever and hence resort to vulgar content because there are many people out there who love inappropriate content.”

For years, a section of the public has expressed concern over the quality and nature of content being produced in Uganda’s entertainment industry, particularly in music and drama, with some critics accusing the new generation of increasingly vulgarising the industry.
However, there is hope that the situation could improve with time, especially if content creators invest more time in research, creativity and developing meaningful ideas before taking their work to the public.
