Singer and performing artist Jackie Chandiru opened up about the challenges of delivering live performances, admitting that not every musician who sounds good in the studio can replicate the same magic on stage.
Chandiru explained that studio recording is considerably different from performing before a live audience because sound levels are usually balanced, making it easier for artists to deliver polished vocals.
She revealed that even her, despite spending years in the music industry as a talented performer, is still learning and working towards perfecting her live singing skills.
Everyone can sing in studio but get handed that microphone live it can be a different story. Let me tell you this, I got to learn to sing live.
Actually, I’m yet to perfect it. I can tell you the truth, I’m not perfect yet. I got to understand live band, like from studio, everything is balanced. But when you reach on stage, the drums sound, the bass, keyboard.
Interestingly, while many music lovers consider Jackie one of Uganda’s finest live performers based on some of her previous stage performances, she believes there is still room for improvement before she reaches the level of perfection she desires.

She further explained that live performance requires a deeper understanding of sound, including how to balance different instruments and adjust to changing microphone and amplifier levels.
“Naturally I’m a musician, but there’s what they call perfectionist when it comes to different kinds of sound, like understanding how to balance sound when the microphone is low and when the amplifier is high.”
