Renowned comedian Dr Hillary Okello has opened up about his parents’ reaction after abandoning his medical career in favor of full-time stand-up comedy.

During his interview with Sanyuka TV, Hillary confessed that when he decided to drop his medical career, his parents were deeply disappointed in him.

According to him, they had a belief that he would eventually develop addictions that they believed came with his new career path.

With determination and persistence, however, Dr Hillary Okello revealed that he had achieved enough to make his parents proud of him and his career choices.

“At first, it is normal for them not to be happy. They always think you have lost your morals or lost your way. But if you persist and show them that you are here to make something good out of yourself, they learn to live with it. As long as you are not smoking weed, doing drugs or being a drunkard. Today my parents are so happy with me,” he said.

Dr Hillary Okello is a certified medical clinician with years of practice after graduation, but he chose to focus on his comedy career out of passion, saying he doesn’t regret his choices because comedy has taken him places.

“I used to do it interchangeably with comedy. I was on stage and also in the hospital. But I was blessed enough when my comedy career took shape. This was when I decided to fully focus on comedy and I thank God that he has pushed me this far,” he said.

Hillary advised parents to always support their children’s choices, using him as an example that art could eventually pay.

“If your child wants to do comedy, music or art, you should know that talent is a form of income and employment. I was inspired by the likes of Salvador to also follow their steps,” he said.
