Media personality Douglas Lwanga has argued that musicians’ stardom has diminished because their frequent presence on social media, particularly TikTok, has made them too familiar to fans.
Speaking on a YouTube podcast, Lwanga observed that audiences no longer feel the same excitement about seeing their favourite musicians as they did in the past, partly because they can access their content online for free.
According to him, the constant exposure has reduced the appeal of attending concerts, where fans previously had to make special efforts to see their favourite stars perform.
They are everywhere now and they see them for free, so it’s not easy for someone to go and dress up and go attend a concert.

He further noted that Uganda’s music industry has experienced a significant decline and undergone major changes, making it increasingly difficult for musicians to earn profits from live performances.
Lwanga suggested that artists should consider exploring alternative businesses and income streams instead of relying solely on music.
Let’s look for other businesses, maybe we do farming. We need to look at what else we can do in the creative industry that’s not the actual singing.
