In an Instagram video shared on Monday, a cheerful Davido hugged the Jamaican artist as he stepped off the private jet. Davido also responded in the comments with a simple, “Welcome home 🇳🇬.”
The two are reportedly shooting a music video for their remix of Teejay’s hit track Drift.
On Twitter, behind-the-scenes clips surfaced of Teejay and Davido on the video set at various locations, including Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a previous DancehallMag interview, when asked about embracing Afrobeats, Teejay enthusiastically affirmed his readiness to dive into the genre, though he hinted at the time that nothing was set in stone yet.
Teejay’s Drift has opened doors for him, including a debut on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at No. 47 and a record deal with Warner Records.
The song, produced by DJ Mac, PXNDX (Panda) and Top Braff Music, has 6.8 million plays on Spotify, while the official video is currently 14 million views on YouTube.
Gabbidon, creator of the Drift dance, also traveled with Teejay to the African country. Visibly enthusiastic, he posted a clip inside the private aircraft, showing Sharon Burke—principal of Solid Agency—also aboard.
“Private jet lifestyle, man! Yeah man…we outside man!” Gabbidon echoed.
Meanwhile, Davido, who is best known for songs such Fall, If, FIA, and Unavailable, has always been candid about his love for Jamaican acts. He recently recruited Dexta Daps for a song, titled BOP, on his Timeless album, and Sean Paul and Ding Dong for a remix of Unavailable.
He also has three collaborations with Popcaan, namely Risky, Dun Rich, and My Story, and expressed interest in working with Grammy-winning Reggae artist Koffee.
In the meantime, fans have embraced Teejay’s visit to the ‘Motherland.’
“Heights of great men,” one fan commented under his post.
“God keep on blessing him,” another said.
“First artist me see bring the dancer for a hit song pon tour. Teejay show them up,” said one more supporter.
