Last evening, comedian Lubega Obed Reign, NUP mobiliser Habib Buwembo and several other party members were reportedly pepper-sprayed and arrested by security personnel as they gathered at Kitebi Primary School to take part in a soccer match between NUP party leaders and their foot soldiers.

The football match was part of activities organised to honour NUP President Bobi Wine as party supporters marked the first Sunday of the month dedicated to celebrating their president.

The celebrations also reportedly aimed to allow party members to reflect on the NUP struggle for justice, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights, particularly after footage involving political prisoner Sam Mugumya circulated and reportedly left several party members deeply concerned.

However, the planned activities were reportedly disrupted by security personnel, with some of the participants arrested.

Information coming in indicates that those arrested are being taken to City Hall Court for the mention of their charges.

NUP supporters and well-wishers have since been urged to turn up at court in solidarity with their colleagues, serve as sureties where required, and witness the proceedings.
