Singer and songwriter Ceaserous has praised social media for transforming Uganda’s entertainment industry by making music marketing easier and giving upcoming artistes a chance to break into the mainstream without spending heavily on promotion.
According to the singer, social media has created opportunities for talented individuals who previously struggled to reach audiences because they lacked the financial resources to market their music.
Ceaserous explained that some artistes are now just one viral TikTok moment away from stardom, noting that uploading music on the platform can help them connect with audiences who appreciate their craft and propel them into the limelight.
He added that the trend is not limited to Uganda, as social media has helped artistes and public figures emerge from different parts of the world over the past five years.
The rise of social media has made marketing easier for many people. There are people who are just a TikTok away from becoming stars.
Someone can have lots of music but lack the resources to promote it. When they upload their music on TikTok, it can blow up, they get blessed and become big on the scene.
Over the last five years, artistes and stars have risen from all over the world.”l
However, while social media has opened new doors for musicians, Ceaserous also pointed to deeper structural challenges facing the entertainment industry, particularly the lack of reliable information among artistes.
He argued that many musicians remain disadvantaged because they do not have sufficient knowledge about the industry and how it operates, stressing that information is a powerful tool for success.

“We’re misinformed. Information is power, and most artistes don’t have the information.”
Ceaserous also touched on the need for a broader overhaul of the industry’s structures, particularly if efforts to make copyright protection effective are to yield meaningful results.
