Next Media Group journalist Brian Macona has returned to the Next Media Park after spending several months on sick leave following a life-threatening accident that left him with serious injuries.
The accident, which happened a few months ago, claimed the lives of two of his colleagues, while Macona survived with heavy injuries that required extensive medical attention. He spent time in the ICU as he underwent treatment and began his long journey to recovery.
After months away from his usual duties, Makona was yesterday warmly welcomed back to the Next Media Park, where his colleagues and bosses organized a celebration to mark his return.
The journalist expressed his gratitude for the reception, saying the experience has given him an even greater appreciation for life and the opportunity to be alive today.
“God has a purpose as to why I’m alive today, and I don’t take that for granted,” he said, emphasizing that he considers his survival a second chance at life.

Makona’s return comes after a challenging period in which he had to focus on his health and recovery away from the newsroom. Despite everything he went through, he says he is now ready to get back to doing what he loves.
He described himself as being “back bigger and better,” signaling his excitement about returning to the newsroom and reconnecting with his work and colleagues.
Makona will officially resume his work duties next week, marking the end of his extended absence from the media space and the beginning of a new chapter following his recovery.
“I’m back bigger and better,” he said, revealing that he will officially resume his duties next week.
